Illustrated by Karen Busch Holman "Primary Numbers: A New Hampshire Numbers Book" is a fitting follow-up to its companion state alphabet book. This fun, colorful, and superbly informative book teaches children about numbers using recognizable places, events, and facts from their respective states. Numbers throughout the books are explained with simple rhyme for younger children and are accompanied by detailed expository text for older learners. Marie Harris (New Hampshire's Poet Laureate 1999-2004) is the author of "G is for Granite: A New Hampshire Alphabet" as well as four books of poetry, including "Weasel in the Turkey Pen" and "Your Sun, Manny: A Prose Poem Memoir. "Marie lives in Barrington, New Hampshire. Karen Busch Holman shares her love of art by teaching children private art lessons and visiting elementary schools in New Hampshire. Karen makes her home in East Andover, New Hampshire.

Accomplishing the nearly impossible, Ronald and Grace Jager have distilled more than three and a half centuries of history into a concentrated, yet refreshing essence. The authors have captured the character and substance of New Hampshire's people, not just their deeds, with thematic threads that weave together the experience of generations. Authoritative and still highly personal, the story falls into four parts which, the authors explain, "best accommodate the historical experience of the state: " these are natural, political, economic, and cultural history. They maintain that "the strength of the state, the source of its surprising coherence, may be simply its history -- long, complicated, densely-packed, and very much present". Few, after reading this compelling narrative, will be able to look at any corner of the state without reflecting on its past. The fifth part of the book is unique in its own way, presenting the histories of many of New Hampshire's leading businesses and organizations, in a special chapter entitled "Chronicles of Leadership". An illustrated timeline of significant events in New Hampshire's history further enhances the text. In fascinating complement to the manuscript are more than 300 half-tone and color photographs, selected from thousands and representing every area of the state. Long-vanished scenes of rural and urban New Hampshirecompete for attention with stunning color reproductions of artwork, antiques, and costumes; picture-postcard vistas of today; dignified portraits of the great; and evocative glimpses into the peoples' everyday lives.
